Check out this quick review of the new F-Series from AllthingsD.

  1. Apples new refreshed ipod touch looks so tempting. The features on this walkman just cant compete imo. With the price being so similar I can see why people would go for the ipod touch and samsung galaxy player instead of the sony walkman f800. Sony needs to step it up and stop relying so much on their audio technology. Very people like myself care about sound quality on their pmp when they can have a ton of other features like a camera, a bigger screen, and expandable memory for the same price. Sony Im still rooting for you but there are very few of us left. So please release something that is competitively priced and featured

  3. I agree. I don't care for smartphones, and I love the Walkman, but Sony should definitely pay attention to what people want in their pmps. There are very few of us still left, it seems.

  4. The Sony Walkman F-series sound quality is damn good. I have one, and I bloody love it. I recommend it...

If you are one of those people that has to have everything on one device, music, video, phone, etc. Go search for a smartphone you like. :)

  5. I own a Z1060 and I was curious about the F series. Today I held one in my hands. I didn't have the chance to try the F, and I'm sure SQ must be excellent. But I was completely let down by the F's perceived quality. The Z feels much more premium. The F looks way cheaper. Its plastics feel cheap. Sony needs to improve upon the F build-quality if it wants to charge what it charges for the F (or any successor).

    1. I would imagine the ZX1, unless you mean the old Z series? But the new ZX1 probably will sound better but it doesn't ship with headphones in Europe from what I saw but they do have the same S-master HX amp, so only way to tell would be to listen to both and compare, but the ZX1 is overpriced for what it brings if you ask me.

  9. If you mean Z1000 series vs F800 series, I guess it pretty much depends on your personal preferences as to sound signatures. I recommend that you check out some of the threads below (Head Fi.org) to get a feel of people's impressions on each of the players. Z's sound is usually described as "warmer" and "more fun", while F's is often described as "more analytical". Check out these (there's a useful "search" function for each thread, in the webpage):

Now, if you mean the newer ZX-1 flagship vs. the also new F880 series, both are Hi-Res (24 bit/192 khz) capable players. Some people who own both say the differences in SQ are minimal or non-existent, despite the fact that both players have somewhat different specs (capacitors, power output, etc). ZX-1 is 128 GB, while the F880 comes in 32 and 64 GB (the latter, only in Japan so far). For some impressions about these two newer players, check out the following threads:

As for my own opinion, I can't honestly compare, for I own a Z1060 and I haven't tried the F series (sonically; I have had one F805 in my hands). All I can say is the Z sounds incredible well, with good soundstage, and built-quality seems to be superior to the F800. Also, it has a bigger screen (4.3 vs 3.5). This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, depending on your preferences.

    Good luck!!!
